Day One Recap

UW-La Crosse Holds Narrow Lead at Women's Swimming and Diving Championship

Oshkosh, Wis.--UW-La Crosse won three events and maintained a narrow 44-point lead after Friday's (Feb. 22) action at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Swimming and Diving Championship in UW-Oshkosh's Albee Hall.

UW-La Crosse sits in first place with 632 points. Two-time defending champion UW-Stevens Point follows in second place with 588 points, UW-Eau Claire in third with 367.5, UW-Whitewater in fourth with 264, UW-Oshkosh in fifth with 168.5 and UW-River Falls in sixth with 135.

Winning individual events for UW-La Crosse were Katelyn Hartung in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.33 and Chelsea Hoff in the 100-yard backstroke with a WIAC-record time of 56.85.

The Eagles also won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:48.02. Members of the 200-yard medley relay were Hoff, Kristi Parker, Brianna Peyer and Clare Hathaway.

UW-Stevens Point, who trimmed 19 points off UW-La Crosse's first-day advantage, had three individual champions and one relay winner.

Elizabeth Abraham tallied a first-place time of 4:37.18 in the 400-yard individual medley, Jennifer Bennett won the 100-yard butterfly in a mark of 59.67 and Jennifer Bussey captured the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.36.

The Pointers' quartet of Abraham, Steph Boehme, Lindsey Lukes and Abby Strobel won the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:51.06.
