Oshkosh, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater claimed the 2007 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) women’s volleyball championship with a 30-21, 24-30, 25-30, 32-30, 15-9 triumph over UW-Oshkosh at Kolf Sports Center on Oct. 24.
UW-Whitewater earned a share of the title with a 30-22, 30-23, 31-33, 30-18 win over UW-River Falls on Oct. 17, while the Titans were attempting to split the league trophy with a victory over the Warhawks.
The conference title is a league-best 13th for UW-Whitewater and sixth in the last eight seasons. The Warhawks were the preseason favorite of the conference’s sports information directors to win this year’s crown, while the Titans were projected to place second.
UW-Whitewater also earned the top seed for the WIAC Tournament that begins on Oct. 30. The Warhawks will host No. 8 seed UW-Stout in a quarterfinal contest, while the Titans earned the second seed and will host No. 7 seed UW-Platteville.
Additional quarterfinal matches include: No. 5 seed UW-Stevens Point at No. 4 seed UW-La Crosse and No. 6 seed UW-Superior at No. 3 seed UW-Eau Claire.
Quarterfinal winners advance to the semifinals at the site of the highest remaining seed on Nov. 2. The highest seed will also host the third-place and championship matches on Nov. 3. The winner of the WIAC Tournament claims the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament.
