UW-Whitewater Earns NCAA Women’s Tennis Bid
Madison, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Tournament by winning the WIAC Team Tournament. Competition was held at Janesville Athletic Club and Four Lakes Athletic Club in Elkhorn, Wis. on April 26.
The Warhawks defeated UW-Eau Claire by a 8-1 margin in the championship match to advance to the national tournament for the first time in program history.
UW-Whitewater earned a spot in championship match with a 5-0 victory over UW-La Crosse in the semifinals, while the Blugolds claimed a 5-1 semifinal win over UW-River Falls.
The Eagles defeated the Falcons, 9-0, in the third-place match.
This marked the first season the conference used a team tournament to determine its automatic qualifier for the national tournament. The four teams selected for the league event were the top four finishers from the WIAC championship standings in the fall.
Pairings for the NCAA Division III Tournament will be announced on April 28.
