WIAC Student-Athletes and Ministry Health Care Partner To Fight Hunger
Madison,
Wis.-For the second year in a row the student-athletes of the Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) and Ministry Health Care have joined
together to fight hunger in Wisconsin.
During the recent conference-wide food drive, the WIAC student-athletes
collected over 6,000 food items that were donated to local food banks and pantries.
Fans not only were asked to deposit non-perishable food items into designated
collection containers at all WIAC athletic events, but hundreds of WIAC student
athletes also went door to door with collection bags supplied by Ministry Health
Care.
"The response
to this year's food drive was simply outstanding and resulted in thousands of
items of food being donated to food pantries/banks located in each of the nine
WIAC communities", said WIAC Commissioner Gary Karner. "Our student-athletes
and Ministry Health Care are to be commended for once again joining forces to
provide much needed food items to those less fortunate than ourselves",
Karner added.
The
WIAC consists of nine institutions from the University of Wisconsin System competing
at the NCAA Division III level including: UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-Oshkosh,
UW-Platteville, UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Stout, UW-Superior, and
UW-Whitewater.
Ministry Health Care is a values-driven health care delivery network of aligned
hospitals, clinics and other providers, based in Wisconsin and Minnesota. With
