La Crosse Tribune's Bey Named Tom Butler Award Recipient

Kirk BeyMadison, Wis.--Kirk Bey of the La Crosse Tribune has been named the recipient of the 2004-05 Tom Butler Award from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).

Bey has worked as a sportswriter/copy editor for the La Crosse Tribune since October, 1997, serving as the college sports coordinator from 2001-05. He has represented the daily newspaper as the men's and women's basketball beat writer for UW-La Crosse since 2001 and UW-La Crosse's football beat writer from 2000-04.

Bey covered the UW-Eau Claire football team during the 1996 season as a sportswriter/copy editor for the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram.

Bey also worked as a sportswriter/copy editor for the Winona (Minn.) Daily News from September, 1995 - May, 1996 and the Ottumwa (Iowa) Courier from October, 1994 - September 1995.

A native of La Crosse, Wis., Bey graduated from UW-La Crosse in December, 1993 with a bachelor of arts degree in mass communications. He and his wife, Cindy, reside in Onalaska, Wis., and are expecting their first child in December.

The Tom Butler Award has been presented annually by the conference since 1998 and is selected by the conference's sports information directors. The award is given to a representative of the print or electronic media who is considered to have provided outstanding coverage to WIAC athletics. The honor is dedicated to Tom Butler, who served the conference faithfully for nearly three decades as its sports information director.
