Harlan to take over as UW-Stout Athletic Director

Joe HarlanMenomonie, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Stout Chancellor Charles W. Sorensen has appointed Joe Harlan, the university’s women’s cross country and women’s track and field coach, as athletic director.

Harlan will take over for Steve Terry on June 15. Terry is returning to a teaching position at UW-Stout.

Harlan has been at UW-Stout since August 2000. He previously taught and coached at Clark College in Washington state, and served as the Clark interim athletic director during the 1998-99 school year.

“I am very pleased that Joe has accepted this assignment,” Sorensen said in announcing the appointment. “Joe enjoys a tremendous amount of respect within our athletic department. I am convinced he has the leadership ability this department needs at this time.”

“Joe also has shown to possess a tremendous amount of organizational skill and an unmatched work ethic,” Sorensen added. “Our athletic department will be in good hands.”

“UW-Stout athletics has done great things in the past,” Harlan, 38, said. “I will come in and do my very best to promote UW-Stout athletics and make sure all programs thrive in the future.”
