RELEASED: Tuesday, May 22, 2007 All-Sports Award Winners Announced
The women’s award for UW-Eau Claire is the seventh in school history and first since 2003. The Blugolds secured women’s conference titles in golf, soccer and volleyball. UW-La Crosse’s men’s award is the 16th in school history and fourth in the last five seasons. The Eagles claimed men’s league championships in cross country, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field and wrestling. UW-Oshkosh won the combined trophy for the second straight year and third time in school history. The Titans finished first in the WIAC standings in baseball, women’s volleyball and women’s softball. The All-Sports Award is given annually by the conference. Points for the award are given according to the final conference standings in each sport on a 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis, or 8-7-6, etc., depending on how many schools compete in each sport. Either (but not both) indoor or outdoor track and field are included in the calculations and the awards are determined on the basis of the lowest number of sports offered by any WIAC institution in each category.
