All-Sports Award Winners Announced

Madison, Wis.--The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced the recipients of the three All-Sports Awards for the 2004-05 academic year. UW-Stevens Point claimed the combined award and women's award, while UW-La Crosse secured the men's trophy.

The combined award for UW-Stevens Point is the second in school history (2005, 2000), while the women's honor is the first in school annals. The Pointers secured conference titles in men's basketball, women's basketball, women's cross country, women's soccer and men's swimming and diving, while finishing second in baseball, football and wrestling.

UW-La Crosse claimed its third consecutive men's trophy and fourth in the last five years. The Eagles claimed men's league titles in cross country, football, men's indoor and outdoor track and field and wrestling.

The All-Sports Award is given annually by the conference. Points for the award are given according to the final conference standings in each sport on a 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis, or 8-7-6, etc., depending on how many schools compete in each sport. Either (but not both) indoor or outdoor track and field are included in the calculations and the awards are determined on the basis of the lowest number of sports offered by any WIAC institution in each category.
