UW-Whitewater’s Goodwin and UW-Platteville’s Skemp Earn All-America Status; Four Named All-Region
Madison, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Matt Goodwin and UW-Platteville’s Jeff Skemp have been named to the 2008 D3hoops.com All-America Team and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)/State Farm NCAA Division III All-America Team and were two of four Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference representatives on All-Region teams.
Goodwin and Skemp claimed third team recognition from D3hoops.com, while Goodwin was first team choice by the NABC and Skemp a third team honoree.
Skemp, a junior center from Hazel Green, Wis. (Southwestern H.S.), led the Pioneers with 15.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, while setting a new school record by making 64.7 percent of his shots from the field. He had nine double-doubles (points-rebounds) this season, giving him 13 for his career.
Goodwin, a junior guard from Milwaukee, Wis. (Rufus King H.S.), averaged 17.8 points per game and 3.6 rebounds per contest, while adding 54 assists and 27 steals. He shot 49.4 percent from the field, 42.4 percent from the three-point arc and 70.5 percent at the free throw line.
Goodwin is the 29th individual in program history to claim All-America status, while Skemp is the seventh.
Goodwin and Skemp secured All-West Region first team honors from both organizations, while UW-Eau Claire’s Dan Beyer (Sr., Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) was a first team selection from the NABC and second team pick by D3hoops.com. UW-Stevens Point’s Steve Hicklin claimed second team laurels from the NABC.
