Three Earn Women's
Golf All-America Honors;
Weber Named Regional Coach of the Year

Madison, Wis.--Three Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (WIAC) women's golfers have been named NCAA Division III All-Americans
by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA). UW-Eau Claire's Kristi Moss
and UW-Oshkosh's Markka Farrington were named to the second team, while UW-Whitewaters
Christy Huegerich was a honorable mention pick. The NGCA also named Whitewater
head coach Brett Weber the Division III Region 3 Coach of the Year.
The NGCA selects a first team, second team and honorable mention honorees. Criteria
to be considered for the honor include NCAA qualifying averages, tournament
wins and average place of finish in tournaments, quality of field in those tournaments
and participation in NCAA championship play.
Moss, a senior from Eau Claire, Wis. (North), helped Eau Claire to a seventh-place
finish at the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship with a four-day total
of 340 to finish 17th overall. She captured medalist honors at the 2001 WIAC
Championship and had the top Blugold score in seven of the 10 meets in which
the team competed. Her 82.56 stroke average in 18 rounds was the best on the
team during the 2001-02 season. Moss was an honorable mention All-America pick
last season, after finishing 51st at the 2001 national tournament, where the
Blugolds placed ninth.
Farrington, a senior from West Bend, Wis. (West), participated in the NCAA Championship
last week and finished 18th with a four-day total of 342. She finished fourth
or better in seven of the nine meets that Oshkosh participated in during the
2001-02 season. Among them were first-place finishes at the Oshkosh Invitational
held last September and the Lewis University Spring Classic held a little less
than four weeks ago. Farrington also tied for third at the WIAC Championship
held last October. She was a honorable mention All-America selection last season.
Huegerich, a senior from Brookfield, Wis. (East), capped her career with a 31st-place
finish at the NCAA Championship last week. She had six of the top fifteen rounds
recorded by a Warhawk golfer this year, including a school record 74 carded
at the Whitewater Invitational. She was the medalist in two tournaments this
year, and placed among the top five individuals in five meets. Huegerich was
Whitewaters top golfer in six tournaments during the 2001-02 season, including
a sixth-place finish at the WIAC Championship.
Farrington and Huegerich were two of just ten individuals invited to compete
in the NCAA III Championship from May 14 -17. The field consisted of the top
ten teams, of five players each, plus the ten individuals for a total championship
list of sixty players.
Huegerich wasnt the only Whitewater representative honored by the NGCA.
Brett Weber, in his first year as the Warhawks head coach, was named NGCA
Division III Region 3 Coach of the Year. The award is voted on by Division III
womens golf coaches. Weber directed the Warhawks to the title of the Knox
(IL) Invitational, second place in the Augustana (IL) Invitational, second place
in the UW-Oshkosh Inviational, and the runner-up spot at the WIAC Championship.
Weber is also the head pro at The Broadlands Golf Club in North Prairie, Wis.

Four Earn Verizon Academic All-District Women's At-Large Honors

Madison, Wis.--Four Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC)
student-athletes have been named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District V
Women's At-Large Team. UW-Eau Claire's Alison Hover and UW-Stevens Point's Jen
Randall earned first team honors, while UW-La Crosse's Jenny Moore and UW-Whitewater's
Christy Huegerich were second team selections.
Hover, a junior tennis player from St. Cloud, Minn. (Tech H.S.), is majoring
in mathematics/finance with a 3.93 grade point average.
Hover led the Blugolds to their ninth-straight WIAC title this season by winning
the No. 1 singles crown. She has also claimed league titles at No. 2 and No.
3 singles in her career. Hover has compiled a stellar 26-2 mark this season,
including a 17-match winning streak dating back to September 30. She was named
the ITA Midwest Rookie of the Year in 1999.
Randall, a junior swimmer from Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., is majoring in actuarial
science with a 3.98 grade point average. She is a National Merit Scholar and
a member of the Phi Eta Sigma and Phi Kapa Phi honor societies.
Randall anchored the 200 medley relay team that finished eighth at the NCAA
Division III Championship this season. She has also been a member of six All-American
and eight conference champion relay teams during her career. The Pointers have
won two conference titles in her three seasons.
Moore, a senior gymnast from Coon Rapids, Minn. (Blaine H.S.), is a nuclear
medicine technology major and chemistry minor with a 3.51 grade point average.
She was named the 2002 WIAC Judy Kruckman Women's Gymnastics Co-Scholar-Athlete
and has earned NCGA All-Academic honors.
Moore helped lead La Crosse to its second straight national title in 2002, claiming
All-America honors on the balance beam and the all-around competition. She is
a four-year letterwinner and has earned five career All-America honors. Additionally,
Moore is a nine-time All-WIAC selection in her career.
Huegerich, a senior golfer from Brookfield, Wis. (East H.S.), is majoring in
elementary education with a 3.76 grade point average. Earlier this season, she
earned the WIAC's Judy Kruckman Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete Award.
Huegerich recently tied for 31st at the NCAA Division III Championship with
a four-day total of 350, including scores of 92, 89, 88 and 81. She tied for
23rd at the national meet last season and finished 27th in 2000. Huegerich is
a three-time All-WIAC performer, placing second at the WIAC Championship in
1999 and sixth each of the past two seasons.
A total of 11 student-athletes were named to the first team, while 10 earned
second team honors. Individuals earning first team recognition will advance
to the national ballot. The at-large squad includes individuals from the sports
of golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, swimming and tennis.

Eau Claire Finishes Seventh At NCAA Women's Golf Championship
South Hadley, Ma.--The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's golf
team finished seventh at the NCAA Division III Golf Championship, which concluded
at the Orchards Golf Club at Mount Holyoke College here Friday.
The Blugolds took seventh on the opening day and held the same position throughout
the four-day, 72-hole event, which included 10 invited teams and 10 individual
players from around the country. These 60 golfers were challenged through four
rounds of play on a difficult 5,801 yard, par 72 course.
Methodist College of North Carolina won its fifth consecutive title with a score
of 1310, beating runner-up Mary Hardin-Baylor, TX by 31 strokes. Rounding out
the top 10 were Amherst College, MA (1384), DePauw University, IN (1387), Rhodes
College, TN (1400), McMurry University, TX (1401), UW-Eau Claire (1402), Buena
Vista, IA (1415), St. Thomas, MN (1417) and Illinois Wesleyan (1427).
The Blugold finish was an improvement of two positions from their first-ever
appearance in the national meet last year.
Leading the Blugolds was senior Kristi Moss who placed 17th in field of 60 golfers
with a 340. Her total included the best round on the final day, a 76, after
rounds of 88, 89 and 87. Her performance helped the Blugolds post the fourth-best
team score Friday with a 338.
Katie Hommen tied for 28th with a 348, while Mo Montbriand was 43rd with a 359,
Karen Law was 49th with a 368 and Jennifer Prock was tied for 50th with a 369.
Also representing the WIAC at the NCAA championship were UW-Oshkosh's Markka
Farrington and UW-Whitewater's Christy Huegerich.
Farrington tied for 18th with a four-day total of 342, shooting rounds of 87,
94, 81 and 80. She was a seventh-place finisher at the NCAA Division III Championship
a year ago.
Huegerich tied for 31st with a four-day total of 350, including scores of 92,
89, 88 and 81. She tied for 23rd last season and finished 27th in 2000.

Eau Claire Earns Bid To NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship; Two WIAC Individuals Also Set To Participate

Indianapolis, Ind.--For the second consecutive year, the University
of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's golf team has been selected as one of 10 teams
to compete in the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship. In addition,
UW-Oshkosh's Markka Farrington and UW-Whitewater's Christy Huegerich were two
of ten individuals to qualify for the national meet.
The championships will be conducted May 14-17 at The Orchards Golf Club on the
campus of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts.
The Blugolds, under first-year coach John Rawdon, will represent Region III
along with Illinois Wesleyan University. A total of 10 teams and 10 individuals
are selected to participate in the women's golf championships.
Last year, the Blugolds, under coach Doug Georgianni, finished ninth in the
national tournament.
The Blugolds are the reigning Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
champion and are led by senior Kristi Moss who was the conference medalist.
The Blugolds have won four of nine meets in which they competed this year. This
spring, they won one meet and finished second twice.
Two teams from each of the five regions were selected for the championships.
In addition, 10 individuals not from selected teams also qualified for the championships.
Regions 2 and 3 each received three individual berths, Region 4 received two
individual berths, and Regions 1 and 5 each received one individual berth.
Farrington, a senior from West Bend, Wis. (West H.S.), is making her second
straight appearance at the NCAA Division III Championship. She placed seventh
overall last season with a 306 stroke total and earned All-America Honorable
Mention status for her performance throughout the season. Farrington won medalist
honors at the 2000 WIAC Championship. She placed third at the league meet last
season and second in 1999.
Huegerich, a senior from Brookfield, Wis. (East H.S.), has earned a spot in
the national tournament for three consecutive years. She tied for 23rd at the
2001 NCAA Division III Championship with a 321 stroke total. In 2000, she tied
for 27th with a score of 347. Huegerich is a three-time All-WIAC performer,
placing second at the WIAC Championship in 1999 and sixth each of the past two
seasons.
The NCAA championship will consist of both team and individual competition conducted
concurrently. All participants will compete throughout the 72 holes of competition.
In the team competition, the low four scores from each team for each day will
count in the team's total score.
This is just the third year of a separate women's golf championship for Division
III.

Whitewaters Huegerich Named Womens Golf Scholar-Athlete

Madison, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewaters Christy Huegerich has been named the 2001 Judy Kruckman Womens Golf Scholar-Athlete, it was announced recently by WIAC Commissioner Gary Karner.
Huegerich, a senior from Brookfield, Wis. (East HS), is majoring in elementary
education with a 3.70 grade point average. She is a three-time member of the
WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and earned Whitewaters Student-Athlete Academic
Achievement Award in 1999-2000. In addition, she has appeared on Whitewaters
Honor Roll.
Huegerich, a team captain for the Warhawks, helped the squad to a second-place
finish at the 2001 WIAC Championship at Mill Run Golf Course in Eau Claire.
She finished sixth in the 30-player field with a two-day total of 171 to earn
All-Conference honors for the third consecutive year. Earlier this season, Huegerich
established a school record with a 74 at the Whitewater Invitational. She placed
23rd at the 2001 NCAA Division III Championship, after finishing 27th in 2000.
Huegerich also serves as a volunteer at elementary schools in the Whitewater
area.
Eau Claires Maureen Montbriand was also nominated for the award.
The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is sponsored by Culvers. In order to be
nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum
3.25 grade point average, be in their last year of competition, or on schedule
to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years.
