Blugolds and Pointers Compete In NCAA Women’s Golf Championship

Waverly, Iowa--University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and UW-Stevens Point represented the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) in the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship held May 13-16 at Centennial Oaks Golf Club.  The national meet was hosted by Wartburg College (Iowa).

The Pointers finished 12th with a four-day, 72-hole total of 1,304 strokes (+152), while the Blugolds placed 13th with 1,305 strokes (+153).

Methodist University (N.C.) claimed its 11th consecutive national title with 1,219 strokes (+67) to easily outdistance the second-place total of 1,258 strokes (+106) by DePauw University (Ind.).  Southwestern University (Texas) was third with 1,263 strokes (+111), Illinois Wesleyan University fourth with 1,271 strokes (+119) and Otterbein College (Ohio) fifth with 1,281 strokes (+129).  A total of 20 teams competed in the national championship.

Individually, UW-Eau Claire’s Meghan Sobotta led the WIAC representatives with a fourth-place finish after compiling a four-day, 72-hole total of 300 (78-78-73-71/+12).  UW-Stevens Point’s Jessica Urban tied for eighth with a 305 (76-74-80-75/+17).

Susan Martin of Methodist recorded a national championship meet-record total of 294 (74-72-75-73/+6) to secure medalist honors in a field of 111 participants.

Also competing for UW-Stevens Point was Michelle Pascavis who tied for 34th with a 322 (87-78-80-77/+34), Sarah Mosher tied for 60th with a 330 (82-89-78-81/+42), Katie Kautz tied for 97th with a 351 (93-91-80-87/+63) and Amanda Dlugopolski tied for 100th with a 358 (91-89-86-92/+70).

UW-Eau Claire’s Torie Ives tied for 37th with a 323 (80-86-78-79/+35), Brianna Obermueller tied for 86th with a 341 (85-88-82-86/+53), Katie Swift tied for 89th with a 344 (90-82-88-84/+56) and Sarah Hansen placed 99th with a 352 (90-88-85-89/+64).
