UW-Stevens Point’s Pascavis Leads All-WIAC Women’s Golf Selections

Michelle PascavisMadison, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point freshman Michelle Pascavis was named the Player of the Year to headline the 10 student-athletes receiving recognition on the 2007-08 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Golf Team.  Individuals were selected based on Golfstat’s rankings of lowest stroke average versus par following the conclusion of the WIAC championship.

Pascavis is the first player in program history to earn the player of the year award and the second freshman in conference archives to claim the prize, joining UW-Oshkosh’s Jennifer Young in 2003.

Pascavis tied for second at the WIAC championship and led UW-Stevens Point with a 78.8 stroke average in six events during the fall season.  She also won medalist honors at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational and UW-Stevens Point Invitational.

UW-Eau Claire senior Meghan Sobotta claimed All-WIAC first team status for the fourth consecutive season, becoming the third individual in program history to earn first team status four straight years.  She secured medalist honors at the WIAC championship and led the Blugolds with a 80.3 stroke average in six competitions throughout the fall season.  Sobotta also captured medalist honors at the UW-Eau Claire Invitational.

Earning first team status for the second straight year was UW-Stevens Point sophomore Jessica Urban.  She tied for second at the WIAC championship, claimed medalist honors at the UW-Whitewater Invitational and ranked second on the team with a 80.3 stroke average.

Additional first team choices this season included:  UW-Stevens Point’s Amy Stiloski and UW-Whitewater’s Diana Schmidt.

Second team selections consisted of:  UW-Eau Claire’s Torie Ives, UW-Oshkosh’s Liz Buske and Megan Scherg, UW-Stevens Point’s Sarah Mosher and UW-Whitewater’s Emily Kuiper.

UW-Stevens Point head coach Matt Interbartolo was voted the coach of the year for the second straight season after directing the Pointers to their first WIAC championship since 1997.  The Pointers were the highest-finishing conference school in all six events they participated in during the fall, including four team titles.

The WIAC also announced its inaugural All-Sportsmanship Team for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.  The team included one member from each school as selected by that school.

Named to the squad were:  UW-Eau Claire’s Sarah Hansen, UW-Oshkosh’s Liz Buske, UW-Platteville’s Michelle Ebert, UW-River Falls’ Katie Kantrud, UW-Stevens Point’s Sarah Mosher, UW-Stout’s Molly Loney, UW-Superior’s Kimberly Store and UW-Whitewater’s Chelsea Davis.
