Athletes of the Week

Week of Sept. 25 - Oct. 1
Torie Ives, Freshman (Osseo/Osseo-Fairchild) & Jesse Thompson, Senior (Stevens Point/SPASH), of UW-Eau Claire
Ives and Thompson shared medalist honors as the Blugolds won the eight-team UW-Stevens Point Invitational on September 30-October 1 at the Stevens Point Country Club. In eighth place after the first day of competition with an 83, Ives stormed back to post a second round low 75 to score an 158 in the two-day invitational. Starting day two in second place after an opening round 80, Thompson went even lower with a second round score of 78 to tie Ives with an 158.

Week of Sept. 18 - 24
Jennifer Young, Senior (Salem/Westosha Central), of UW-Oshkosh
Young tied for fourth in the individual competition to lead UW-Oshkosh to a fifth-place ranking at the 17-team UW-Whitewater Invitational on September 23-24 at Prairie Woods Golf Course in Avalon. She took 159 shots, including 18-hole scores of 79 and 80, in the 36-hole event to finish 15 shots off the lead. Katie Tewell of Franklin (Ind.) finished first among the 103 golfers with 155 shots, while Kim Hunley of NCAA Division I Northern Illinois University placed second with 156. Northern Illinois University captured the team title with 641 shots, while UW-Stevens Point finished second with 661, Illinois Wesleyan University third with 674, Illinois College fourth with 679 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 682.

Week of Sept. 11 - 17
Torie Ives, Freshman (Osseo/Osseo-Fairchild), of UW-Eau Claire
Ives shot two consistent rounds of 78 and 77 to tie for third place in the 25-team Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic on September 16-17. She helped the Blugolds to a second-place finish, just one stroke behind DePauw (Ind.). On the second day of the tournament, the Blugolds had the best team total of the tournament, a 305, which helped them move from sixth place to second place.

Week of Sept. 4 - 10
Susie Lewis, Senior (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central), of UW-Stevens Point
Lewis fired an 82 on Saturday and followed up with an impressive 76 on Sunday at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational which was held at the par 73 Eagle Creek Golf Course in Hortonville. She became the first player in school history to win medalist honors at a meet of six or more schools as the Pointers won the team title at the nine-team event. Lewis finished nine strokes ahead of second-place finisher Megan Scherg of UW-Oshkosh.

Week of Aug. 28 - Sept. 3
Meghan Sobotta, Junior (Arcadia) of UW-Eau Claire
Sobotta earned co-medalist honors in the 20-team UW-Eau Claire Fall Invitational with back-to-back rounds of 76 on the par 72 Mill Run Golf Course September 2 and the par 73 Wild Ridge Golf Course September 3. She tied Gustavus Adolphus' (Minn.) Rachel Roberg (77-75--152) for medalist honors in the 116-player field. Both individuals finished four strokes ahead of third-place Kimbra Kosak of Gustavus.
