Game #1--UW-Whitewater 5, UW-Stevens Point 4
UW-Whitewater scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to edge UW-Stevens Point, 5-4, in an opening round game of the WIAC Baseball Tournament held Saturday at Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids. The victory advances the top-seeded Warhawks to a second round contest against the winner of a game between Second Seed UW-Oshkosh or Third Seed UW-La Crosse. UW-Whitewater counted the winning run on an infield error, allowing Ben Prather the score from third base with bases loaded. The Warhawks had just one hit in the inning, a solo home run by Eddie Adamson. UW-Whitewater tied the game at 4-4 on a bases loaded catcher's interference call. The inning also included two walks and one hit batsman. UW-Stevens Point took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a run scoring single by Bryan Byrnes. The Pointers extended their lead by scoring twice in the seventh inning, including one unearned run. UW-Whitewater had just six hits in the game, including two by Adamson and Matt DeLong. UW-Stevens Point had 12 hits in the contest, including three by Jake Frombach and two by Byrnes, Adam Evanoff and Matt Richter. Chris Edwards was the winning pitcher for the Warhawks pitching the last 2 2/3 innings. He relieved starter Mike Jacobson who pitched 6 1/3 innings, scattering ten hits and striking out three batters. Travis Kempf took the loss for the Pointers, coming on in the ninth with two outs and runners on first and second. He gave up a run scoring single and a walk. Kempf relieved Jordan Zimmerman who pitched 8 2/3 innings and allowing five Warhawk hits while striking out nine.
