UW-Stevens Point’s Coe Captures All-America Accolades
Madison, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Doug Coe has been named to the 2008 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-America First Team and D3baseball.com All-America Second Team.
Coe, a senior catcher from Appleton, Wis. (North H.S.), is the seventh individual in program history to claim All-America recognition from the ABCA and third to receive second team status. Bill Verbrick was a second team pick in 2002, while Jordan Zimmermann captured the honor in 2006 and 2007.
The ABCA also announced an All-Midwest Region Team for the 2008 season. Joining Coe on the first team were UW-Oshkosh’s Brad Demmin and Jeremy Rubens and UW-Whitewater’s Adam Dominick and Billy Johnson.
Second team selections included: UW-Oshkosh’s Nolan Fadness and Kyle Kannenberg, UW-Stevens Point’s Justin Bushong, Travis Kempf, Brandon Scheidler and Mike Thrun and UW-Whitewater’s Aaron Dott, Jordan Stine and Kevin Zalnis.
Third team choices consisted of: UW-La Crosse’s Storm Gram, UW-Stevens Point’s Jared Surman and Jeff Zielke and UW-Whitewater’s Ben Prather.
UW-Whitewater head coach John Vodenlich was named the region’s Coach of the Year, while Demmin claimed a Gold Glove Award.
The regional squad included individuals representing the WIAC, Midwest Conference, Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
