Provosts and Vice Chancellors
The Provosts Web Site is designed to provide information for, and about, the 15 Provosts from the University of Wisconsin System’s 13 universities, the UW Colleges comprised of 13 freshman and sophomore campuses, and the statewide UW-Extension. Provosts serve as the chief academic officers at their institutions, and also have the title of Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
In keeping with the UW System’s model of distributed and delegated leadership, the Office of Academic and Student Affairs at the University of Wisconsin System Administration works to support and serve the Provosts and their institutions through the core roles of interpreting, training, monitoring, advocacy, and consulting in the following areas:
- Systemwide Strategic Planning
- Academic Program Planning and Array Management
- Academic Policies
- Student Affairs issues
- Faculty and Staff issues
- Systemwide Grants and Awards
- Systemwide Initiatives
- PK-16 Planning
- Individual institutional issues
The Provosts convene throughout the academic year with Mark Nook, the Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, to discuss these and other systemwide issues.
