There are two important recent changes to Wisconsin Voting law that are still in effect
28-Day Residency Rule
Recent changes to Wisconsin voting laws requires that a voter must maintain a physical presence in the district or ward in Wisconsin where that voter wishes to vote for at least 28 consecutive days before Election Day. The G.A.B. has issued updated guidance for students as to how the 28 day rule affects the procedure for voting in upcoming elections, and what is required to "maintain a physical presence.”
Proof of Residence
Changes in Wisconsin voting law relating to a UW institution’s ability to provide proof of residence are in effect. This means that students who rely on a UW institution to provide them proof of residence will need to ask for an enrollment verification from their institution. The G.A.B. has issued guidance indicating that the enrollment verifications issued by UW institutions are valid proof of residence. According to the G.A.B., electronic versions of these documents are acceptable.
