Brittingham Art Invitational II - University of Wisconsin System

Brittingham Art Invitational II - Call for Entries
Deadline: April 12, 2002
Exhibition
The University
of Wisconsin System Office of the President invites UW art faculty and
instructors to participate in Brittingham Art Invitational II,
an exhibition to showcase the artwork of visual artists of the UW institutions
throughout the state. The art will be installed both in the UW System
office space, located in Van Hise Hall, and in Brittingham House, the
official residence of the president of the UW System. Both of these locations
are highly visible to the public serving as the meeting place of the Board
of Regents, and regularly hosting more than 3,000 visitors annually. Guest
Curator Christie Charbonneau Wells, an artist and former curator of the
Indiana State University Permanent Art Collection, and Helen Klebesadel,
formerly on the art faculty of Lawrence University, will be among the
committee members that will make final selections of works for this exhibition.
Recognition and
Awards
One purchase prize of up to $1000 will be awarded. A catalog and website
of selected works will be produced. Additionally, all artists participating
in this exhibition will be recognized at an Opening Reception in the early
fall.
Specifications
All two-dimensional work is eligible. Due to the nature of the space we
are limited as to size but can generally accommodate works up to 48".
All work should be framed and suitable for hanging in a public, non-gallery
space. (Works should be received and ready to install with proper hanging
device(s) attached or enclosed with installation instructions.) Additionally,
Brittingham Art Invitational II
can accept a limited number of three-dimensional works. Video or performance
art cannot be accommodated.
Slides
Send 1-3 slides of work you would like to exhibit. Please label each slide
with the artist's name, title of work, media, dimension, and marking that
indicates the top of the work. Slides will be reviewed and selections
for the exhibition will be based on space availability. Catalogues and
website images will be produced from the selected slides.
Statements
A catalog and website will be produced for this exhibition. Once work
is selected, a resume and a statement concerning the work will be requested.
See calendar for deadline for submission of this information.
Liability
UW System Administration will be responsible for insuring items while
in our possession and will pay the cost to repair or replace, the lesser
of, at our discretion. Substantiated valuations, should a loss occur,
will be necessary. Independent, certified appraisals are necessary on
all works valued at $10,000 or more. UW System cannot be held responsible
for loss or damage during shipping and artists are advised to adequately
insure their work when shipped.
Delivery and Return
of Work
Accepted works may be hand-delivered or shipped pre-paid. At the conclusion
of the exhibition, work can be picked up or arrangements can be made for
pre-paid return shipping. See calendar for dates for works to be hand-delivered
and picked up.
