About the Presentation
Chris Henige, chair of UW-Whitewater’s Art Department, is an art historian, a teacher and an innovator. Henige began teaching at UW-Whitewater in 2001. He quickly became involved with a general education course entitled World of the Arts. In meeting the challenge of teaching 90 students per section, he implemented methods ranging from textbook review to image acquisition and database development, and applied his Web skills and interests in establishing a foundation for future course enhancements. In 2005, Henige was the recipient of the College of Arts and Communication Excellence in Teaching award. Henige’s research interests are in medieval art and architecture and monasticism. In August of 2003, he discovered wall paintings in an Augustinian abbey north of Paris called Saint-Martin-aux-Bois that had been hidden. His work continues to reveal more of the paintings formerly obscured. His web site reflects his expertise and unique niche in the study of medieval art.
