--Highlights/reflections on the UW Library Staff Conference, June 3-4
An online survey was put out, and extensive input was received from conference attendees. Feedback was generally positive. Conference organizers are considering whether to do it again next year.
--Extending access to password-protected documents to CDC members: Has this been done yet?
Karen and Lisa are making arrangements to set up access for CDC members. The Shared Electronic Collection budgets have been updated and posted in excel format.
--Discuss and approve UB Working Group’s report (Mary)
The UB Working Group is making three recommendations to CUWL. LAMS want more input on this before it goes to CUWL. LAMS have some issues they want to discuss with their campuses and bring back input.
The UB Working Group is recommending that:
- UB pickups should be allowed from the holding library and implemented System-wide.
- UB Aggregate block limits should be extended to patron’s local circulation transactions. Currently 3 lost UB books puts a block on the patron for UB, but not local circulation.
- UB’s “promotion capability” should not be implemented due to poor functionality.
Default replacement charges has created some controversy. No recommendation was made. If no price is on the item record, UB goes to the default replacement charge. This default is different from campus to campus.
Report was approved unanimously by CUWL CRSCC with changes.
Mary will present these recommendations to CUWL at the July CUWL meeting.
--Update on other CDC and CRS working groups
-Document delivery (Ron)
Ron Hardy, Lisa Jewell, and Pat Wilkinson will be meeting with Ed Meachan on Monday to discuss some potential proposed changes to improve the commercial document delivery program. Following that meeting, a formal proposal will be drafted to go to CUWL later this month. Possible proposed changes include issuing purchasing cards to campuses, increasing the vendor options available through WiLS, expanding the eligibility to graduate students and/or undergrads working with faculty on collaborative research.
There has not been enough time since initial implementation to evaluate the program, and there have been some misconceptions about the program. We may need a conference call in the next week or two on this topic. We need to secure the $80,000 on Monday, and be prepared to show it is working by October.
-Blackwell evaluation (Richard)
A year end call for expenditures will be put out shortly to put together a report.
--Other business, questions, comments.
DIN update: It is now at 6 million, and is before the regents. Some questions about how the money will be used are out there that need clarification.
ERM is moving forward.
--Next conference call: Aug. 6th
