Issues raised at the ITMC meeting
The campus roundtable reports at today's ITMC meeting indicated widespread interest in ImageNow, Content Management Systems (CMS) and the portfolio of UWS common systems. An analysis of how much each institution is or isn't using the various common system applications would be valuable. A deeper look at what the UWS institutions are doing at in regards to CMS would be a good discussion topic at the CIO Council. A central repository on the UW System intranet site of RFP templates for all kinds of systems would be useful.
It was suggested that the campus roundtable reports be given earlier in the conference to allow people to have more time to discuss in person the issues that get raised.
CIO Retreat
March would be a likely timeframe for a two day retreat. A possible topic would be benchmarking with the peers of UWS, including use of the EDUCAUSE Core Data Service. Judy Caruso distributed an example of the data that can be extracted for each question by those who participate. To make effective use of the survey, the UWS institutions would need to agree on how to report the value of the common systems.
Another possible topic would be relationships between the CIOs and other leaders in the UW System, e.g., chancellors, provosts and CBOs. On some campuses, these relationships are not very robust. Perhaps a facilitator could be brought in to assist with professional development.
IT reviews are underway, or have recently been completed, at several UWS institutions. These should be discussed at either the retreat or an earlier CIO Council meeting.
A team of Kathy Pletcher, Mark Anderson, John Krogman, Lorie Docken and Ed Meachen will develop the agenda for the retreat.
