Vicki C. WashingtonVicki serves as the Interim Assistant Vice President for Academic Diversity
and Development. She has oversight for Plan 2008: Educational Quality
Through Racial and Ethnic Diversity, the Equity Scorecard Project, the
UWSA President's Council on Diversity, preparation of policy options and
reports, policy analysis, and advising the Senior Vice President about
trends affecting diversity, and multicultural and disadvantaged programs
and policies. Biographical ProfileVicki is on leave from UW-Extension where she had been the Equal Opportunity and Diversity Program Director, providing overall direction and leadership for all functional areas relating to equal opportunity, affirmative action, and diversity programs. This includes Plan 2008, discrimination complaints, Affirmative Action (AA) Plan development and administration, recruitment advising and waivers, Title IX and general outreach, civil rights compliance matters including: training, accessibility, and policy development and implementation. She also provided leadership for implementation of a statewide Multicultural Change training program, including the train-the-trainer component. While at UW-Extension, Vicki developed the first regional seminar for the Wisconsin Rural Leadership program that explored and examined the civil rights movement and its continuing implications for African Americans and others. Vicki has worked with UW System over the years, serving on many systemwide committees and advisory groups. She has extensive experience in civil rights, diversity and multicultural change, facilitation, conflict resolution, and employee relations and human resources. Vicki was honored with the 2000 YWCA Women of Distinction Award for her outstanding contributions toward promoting women, diversity, and tolerance in our community. She was recognized for her work and contributions to the City and the Madison Equal Opportunities Commission by the City of Madison when it awarded her with the 1999 Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award. She was also honored by UW-Extension as the recipient of its 1997 UW System Outstanding Woman of Color Award. In 1995 as a member of the delegation for the Lawyers' Committee on Civil Rights Under Law, Vicki traveled to Beijing China to participate in the UN Fourth World Conference on Women in Huairou, China. She and others in her delegation successfully lobbied the U.S. delegation to address race and gender intersectionality issues in the U.S. platform. Vicki received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, her law degree from North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina, and has many certifications in her fields.
