Precollege Pipeline Data
Purpose
To identify Student of Color (SOC) populations in the Wisconsin Precollege Pipeline by:
- Wisconsin school district
- school
- grade
- ethnicity
- gender showing percentages
Expected results
- Identify districts and schools with high concentrations of SOC
- Identify next generation students in the precollege pipeline
- Track student demography as they progress from elementary school into middle school and high school
Possible Uses
- Recruitment:
Identifying and tracking SOC in the Pipeline will better inform which districts/schools have substantial student populations in the UW System target area. There are many pockets of SOC in Wisconsin that may have been overlooked because no one would have imagined these populations exist in these numbers and in these areas of the state.
- Long-range planning:
The Precollege Pipeline Source Data informs better planning strategies for targeting SOC.
The ability to identify SOC in their sophomore and junior years will better inform
future recruitment efforts, possibly in areas not targeted before.
Data History
Following are the data sets developed from the DPI report "Public Enrollment by District by School by Ethnicity (PESE) 2006-07." All files are presented in an Excel spreadsheet format.
The files are protected on the OADD web site so you must download the files before data manipulation can occur.
Suggestion:
Once you have downloaded the file, make a working copy and rename the file so the original data set is secure.
Precollege Pipeline Source Data 2006-07
Listed below are data sets developed from this effort which illustrate the types of reports that can be generated from the Precollege Pipeline Source Data file to fit your specific needs.
The Precollege Pipeline Source Data 2006-07 file was used to create all the examples presented below. For consistency this file should be used for all queries.
- Precollege Pipeline Data: District Totals SOC Percentages 2006-07
PURPOSE
This data reflects the demography of Students of Color (SOC) enrolled in all Wisconsin DPI school districts. The data is sorted by Wisconsin county, school district, district totals SOC, district totals white, all districts total, all district percentages SOC.
- Precollege Pipeline Data: 15 to 100 Percent SOC 2006-07
PURPOSE
To identify Wisconsin districts having SOC enrollment between 15% - 100% of the total district student population. This data is sorted by districts, showing schools within each district, sorted by grade with ethnicity and gender totals and percentages within each grade.
- Precollege Pipeline Data: 0 to 14 Percent SOC 2006-07
PURPOSE
To identify Wisconsin districts having SOC enrollment from 0% to 14% of the total district student population. This data is sorted by district showing schools within each district, sorted by grade with ethnicity and gender totals and percentages within each grade.

Using the School District Data Mapping Site (pdf)
This data was developed using the Precollege Pipeline Source Data file and GPS technology by the Applied Population Lab (APL) UW Madison/Extension, providing a state view of Wisconsin school districts and giving district percentages of Student of Color populations in the Precollege Pipeline. Once a district of interest has been identified, the Precollege Pipeline Source Data file can be cross referenced to provide statistical information for the individual schools within the selected district, showing grade, ethnicity, and gender.
