Applying Advanced Distributed Learning to Pre-Calculus Mathematics

Textual, Conceptual, Practical

Early on, the faculty involved in the POC settled on a common vision for the creation of content which came to be labeled TCP; i.e., each of our LOs would have a Textual, Conceptual, and Practical piece. This resulted largely because we observed that while materials while being quite well done, usually had these components. However, faculty felt that often one or more of them was in need of editing (most often they were contextually inappropriate (the T of TCP). For the most part we discovered that they could not be disassembled, edited and reassembled to use in contexts more appropriate to the current pedagogical needs.

To enhance the creation of TCP structured materials, a prototypical HTML template was created and, based on our ISD assessment, has been refined to a DreamWeaver® DWT template. That template is being used to create this site. The common goals of each of these templates are those of simplifying content creation, allowing for disaggregation of the TCP components and encouraging a somewhat common look and feel. Examples of learning objects created in the older template can be found in the POC Repository. More information about the new template and content development, including downloads and a tutorial, can be found at our content development site.
