Applying Advanced Distributed Learning to Pre-Calculus Mathematics

Project Assessments

Two assessments were conducted to support project evaluation goals. They were: Faculty Experiences with Learning Object Development: A Case Study Assessment ... that was conducted by Patricia Ploetz from the Academic ADL Co-Lab in Madison, Wisconsin.

From the conclusion of that paper:

" Faculty are interested in providing the best possible content for their students, if we can continue to demonstrate the viability of learning objects/gizmos faculty we continue to move in that direction. The magnitude of that move depends upon how well we support their efforts through the development/creation/implementation of technological tools to meet their needs. The three most important barriers to moving forward, as identified by this group of faculty are 1) the creation, development or identification of a web-based interface “tool” that allows faculty to create, edit, metadata tag and package content 2) a search tool that supports searches across multiple repositories, allows for identification of non-proprietary (free) content and is easy to use, and 3) development support in the creation of learning objects/gizmos."

The second was an instructional design assessment entitled Recommendations for Proof-of-Concept Project done by Marjee Chmiel also from the Academic ADL Co-Lab.

During the project an instructional design concept we called TCP (Textual, Conceptual, Practical) was developed. This gave rise to an HTML template constructed to accomodate reasonably easy content creation. Among other things, as a result of Marjee's assessment, a second version was designed that has evolved into that being used to create this website.
