UW System Statement on Supreme Court Decision

On June 24, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision in the matter of Fisher v. the University of Texas at Austin.

While this case involved specific college admissions policies and procedures at UT, which are different than policies and practices in effect at University of Wisconsin System campuses, the case had been expected to clarify the constitutional standards for university admissions policies.  However, the Court decided the case on narrower grounds, sending it back to the lower court for further proceedings.

“Today’s decision does not appear to have immediate implications for our freshman admissions policy, or the manner in which that policy is applied at each UW campus. We will continue to follow the case with interest. In the meantime, we remain committed to enrolling a diverse student body using a comprehensive, individualized process, in a manner that conforms to the law,” said UW System President Kevin P. Reilly.
