Statement on UW-Stout’s Decision Regarding ROTC

"I support Chancellor Chuck Sorensen's decision to allow a Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) program to operate on the UW-Stout campus. This course of action is in compliance with federal law and Regent policy.
"ROTC programs provide educational and vocational opportunities for interested students, and will be allowed to operate on UW campuses. Chancellor Sorensen and I continue to hear diverse viewpoints from many citizens on all sides of this issue, and it is important to remember the substance of the related Board of Regents policies.
"For nearly 20 years, the Board of Regents has expressed concern about discrimination in ROTC programs. I encourage all interested parties to support free expression of diverse views on our campuses, while showing respect to persons of all backgrounds and interests."
