UW System mascots to join Governor, Legislature for "UW Spirit Week"
MADISON—University of Wisconsin System pride will thrive statewide and during events at the Wisconsin State Capitol to mark "UW Spirit Week," set for April 11-15.
"The UW System works in every corner of Wisconsin to educate students, create high-skill, high-wage jobs, and to improve the quality of life in Wisconsin communities," said UW System President Kevin P. Reilly. "Contributions from UW alumni provide countless benefits for the public and private sectors across the state. UW Spirit Week is a time to celebrate those many contributions and to make sure the state protects public higher education for the next generation."
UW Spirit Week is an opportunity for alumni, students, parents, friends and Wisconsin citizens to celebrate campus allegiances and the university's positive impact around the state.
Gov. Jim Doyle will help commemorate UW Spirit Week by signing a proclamation on Wednesday, April 13, at 10 a.m., in the Governor's Conference Room. President Reilly, alumni, mascots and friends of the university will join Gov. Doyle for the Wisconsin State Capitol event.
"This proclamation pays tribute to the spirit of pride and allegiance
that we have here in Wisconsin," Doyle said. "We see it in the
UW flags flying from vehicles, in the beauty of our campuses, and in the
integrity and enthusiasm of alumni and current students alike. It is only
fitting to recognize that all-encompassing spirit."
UW's campus mascots will also be on hand earlier Wednesday, April 13, as and representatives of the Wisconsin State Legislature gather at 9:30 a.m. in the Capitol Rotunda to share the positive impacts of their UW experience.
The week-long spirit celebration will culminate, Friday, April 15, as alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents and friends across the state participate in "UW Spirit Day." All are encouraged to wear their campus colors, logo wear, and/or a "spirit badge" to show their UW connection in schools, hospitals, banks, businesses and hometowns throughout Wisconsin.
Details about local UW Spirit Week events and downloadable spirit badges are available through campus alumni associations or on the Web at http://www.wisconsin.edu/spirit.
