Statement on Governor Doyle’s Appointments to the UW Board of Regents

“We welcome the new members to the Board of Regents named today
by Governor Doyle. The UW chancellors and I look forward to working with
them to enhance educational opportunities for students and the state.
“I have previously worked with Mr. McPike and Mr. Falbo, and of
course, with Toby Marcovich, and believe the university will benefit from
their knowledge and experience. They know the UW System and will be very
effective as Regents and stewards of the public trust.
“I am especially pleased that our current Regent President, Toby
Marcovich, will remain on the Board for at least one more year. Toby’s
leadership and good humor will help the System immeasurably during this
time of transition as he and his fellow board members seek to hire my
successor.
“I also want to express my gratitude and appreciation to Fred
Mohs and Gerard Randall for their unwavering commitment to the university.
They have served the Board, the UW System and our students exceptionally
well. We owe them a huge debt of thanks.”
