Chancellor finalists
Linda Bunnell Shade
Linda Bunnell Shade served for eight years as chancellor of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, where she also was a professor of English. She then served the College Board as senior vice president for higher education. Since 2002, Bunnell Shade has developed a broad-based consulting practice serving higher education and nonprofit organizations. Before joining the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Bunnell Shade served as vice chancellor of academic affairs for the Minnesota State University System and held various positions at the California State University and the University of California, Riverside. She earned her B.A. at Baylor University and her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in English Literature at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Elaine P. Maimon
Elaine P. Maimon is provost (chief campus executive officer) of Arizona State University West in Phoenix, serving more than 7,100 students. She is also a vice president of Arizona State University as a whole, with a population of 57,000 students, the fourth largest public university in the nation. Maimon received her degrees – B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in English – from the University of Pennsylvania, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in her junior year and later received her Ph. D. with distinction. She then served in a number of teaching and administrative roles at Haverford College (Haverford, Pa.), Arcadia University (Glenside, Pa.), Brown University (Providence, R.I.), and Queens College (part of the City University of New York).
James W. Schmotter
James W. Schmotter is dean of the Haworth College of Business and professor of management at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. He joined the WMU faculty in 1997 after serving for five years as dean of the College of Business and Economics at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania and for 14 years as an administrator and teacher at the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University and at the State University of New York at Binghamton. At Cornell, he was associate dean, director of international studies and taught business history and international business. Schmotter earned his B.A. at Muskingum College in Ohio, his Ph.D. at Northwestern University and studied higher education administration at Columbia University.
