Wisconsin Economic Summit III to focus on
"Taking Steps to Move Wisconsin Forward"

MADISON - Wisconsin Economic Summit III, hosted by the University of Wisconsin System, will take place next Monday-Wednesday, Oct. 14-16, at the Midwest Express Center in Milwaukee.

Participants in this year's summit, titled "Taking Steps to Move Wisconsin Forward," will focus on action, accountability and results as the state works to propel its economy toward recovery.

Wisconsin Economic Summit III will bring together business leaders, elected officials, university experts and economic development partners to act on statewide economic development strategies.

"The economic summit is the best opportunity to learn about new plans for growing Wisconsin's economy," said UW System President Katharine C. Lyall. "Wisconsin Economic Summit III will build upon the dialogue that took place among key stakeholders at the first two summits."

Presenters will showcase specific economic development advances during workshops on Monday, and attendees will learn more about economic clusters, collaborations and the future of Wisconsin's economy during sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Highlights include keynote speakers Paul Gigot, editorial page editor of The Wall Street Journal; Gary Stern, president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, and William M. Daley, former secretary, U.S. Department of Commerce, and president of SBC Communications.

The major party candidates for Wisconsin governor will also outline their plans to grow the state's economy. Republican nominee Gov. Scott McCallum will speak Tuesday morning, Oct. 15. Democratic nominee Jim Doyle, Wisconsin's Attorney General, will speak Wednesday morning, Oct. 16.

Major support is provided by Alliant Energy, Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, MG&E, We Energies, Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, Xcel Energy, The Widget Source, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Baylake Bank.

The event is open to the public, and on-site registration is available. More details and a full agenda are available at www.wisconsin.edu/summit.
