Governor candidates to speak at Wisconsin Economic Summit III

MADISON-The Republican and Democratic candidates for governor will outline their plans for growing the state's economy at Wisconsin Economic Summit III.

Gov. Scott McCallum, the Republican nominee, will speak to the statewide gathering of business, labor, government, education and non-profit leaders at 8:20 a.m. on Oct. 15. Democratic nominee James Doyle, Wisconsin's attorney general, will speak to the crowd at 8:10 a.m. on Oct. 16. Each candidate will speak for 20 minutes.

Sponsored by the University of Wisconsin System, Wisconsin Economic Summit III will be held Oct. 14-16 at the Midwest Express Center in Milwaukee.

"We are pleased the major candidates for governor have chosen to speak at Wisconsin Economic Summit III," said UW System President Katharine C. Lyall. "The economy is the single most important issue right now in Wisconsin."

Lyall said the economic summit was scheduled for October this year to give the gubernatorial candidates the opportunity to discuss their economic plans with a statewide audience prior to the November election. Economic Summits I and II were held in mid-November in 2000 and 2001.

"Wisconsin Economic Summit III is the perfect venue for the candidates to explain to top leaders in every sector of the state's economy how they plan to address Wisconsin's struggling economy," Lyall said.
