Deborah Durcan Named Vice President for Finance with the University of Wisconsin System
MADISON - Deborah A. Durcan, acting vice president for finance with the University of Wisconsin (UW) System, has been named to the position on a permanent basis, effective September 1.
As vice president, Durcan is responsible for all finance, internal audit, trust funds and related business functions of the UW System. She also serves as the principal staff officer to the Business and Finance Committee of the UW System Board of Regents.
The announcement was made by UW System President Katharine Lyall, who thanked Durcan "for accepting this critical appointment. I'm confident that, under her leadership, the finance area will continue to serve the needs of our institutions at the highest level."
Durcan became acting vice president in December 1999. She succeeded Marcia Bromberg, who left to become chief financial officer of the Nellie Mae Foundation. On September 8, the Board of Regents set Durcan's salary at $130,000.
Durcan has had several financial management positions within the UW System, beginning as a staff accountant in 1975. She later served as assistant director of financial reporting (1984-85), director of accounting services/associate controller (1985-87), controller (1987-92), and assistant/associate vice president for financial administration (1992-99).
Her background includes a B.B.A. degree in accounting from UW-Madison. She is also a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Government Financial Manager. She is active in the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) and is an officer and board member of its regional affiliate.
