2004 Audit of the University of Wisconsin System by the Legislative Audit Bureau
Statement on the Release of the LAB Report
Regent President Toby Marcovich
September 17, 2004
"My fellow Regents and I are pleased to have the LAB findings, and we invite the LAB, the Governor, and the Legislature to join us in our ongoing efforts to be as administratively efficient as possible. Our recent study -- Charting a New Course for the UW System -- highlighted a number of areas where we, in collaboration with the state, can maximize resources, reduce duplication and increase efficiency. That study, combined with the LAB report, can help us to take advantage of some of these efficiency opportunities.
"President Reilly is already exploring additional ways for the UW to make administrative services more efficient, and we are confident that he and his colleagues will identify areas where we can, and will, improve. My fellow Regents and I fully support his efforts and look forward to working with him, his staff and our chancellors on these efforts in the weeks and months ahead.
By most measures, ours is the finest system of higher education in the nation. But that doesn't mean that we can't, and shouldn't, strive for continuous improvement.
