A "Classified" employee is paid every 2 weeks and is part of the civil service system. Both non-represented and represented classified employees should select classified as their appointment type.

An "Unclassified 9 month" employee is paid once per month and has a 9 month/academic year employment contract. Many faculty members are Unclassified 9 month employees. Academic year employees who work during the summer months (e.g. teach summer session, work at camps) should still select Unclassified 9 month as their appointment type.

An "Unclassified 12 month" employee is paid once per month and has a 12 month employment contract. Many academic staff employees are Unclassified 12 month employees.
