The Tax-Sheltered Annuity Program is a supplemental retirement savings program authorized by section 403(b) of the Internal Revenue Code. All University of Wisconsin employees, including student hourlies and graduate assistants — with the exception of some employees-in-training, fellows, and interns — are eligible to participate. Eligible employees can enroll at any time.

Through the TSA Program you can invest a portion of your income for retirement either on a pre-tax basis or with a Roth after-tax option or a combination of both. Participation in the UW TSA Plan is voluntary. You make the entire contribution; there is no employer match.

Investment options include a wide array of mutual funds and fixed and variable annuities managed by six authorized investment companies. For a description of our investment companies see the Quick Guide to the TSA Program and the list of Authorized Investment Companies below.

Read Save Smart - Save Early! for an analysis of why you should participate. The TSA Q&A is a list of frequently asked questions and describes the Program in detail. How to enroll in the TSA Program helps you through the enrollment process and provides links to online enrollment. Use the Salary Reduction Agreement to let the University know how much you would like to contribute to your investment company. If you have additional questions, you may contact your benefits office or e-mail the TSA benefits specialist.
