When you work for the University of Wisconsin you are eligible for comprehensive health insurance benefits. All of our health plans offer comprehensive medical and prescription coverage. You have the option to enroll in a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) or the Standard Plan, a Preferred Provider Plan (PPO).

• HMO providers are available within each county in the state and offer full medical coverage with almost no out-of-pocket costs, but you are restricted to a certain network of providers. All HMOs provide dental benefits.
• The PPO plan (the Standard Plan) allows you to go to the doctor of your choice anywhere in the state, country or world. There are more out-of-pocket costs and no dental benefits.
