AB 148
Composition of the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System
Full Description
(Rhoades/Schultz) Under current law, 14 citizen members, appointed by the Governor with Senate confirmation, serve on the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System. This bill requires the appointment to the Board of at least one citizen member who resides in each of Wisconsin’s congressional districts. This requirement would begin to take effect on May 1, 2011.
Similar legislation (AB 276/SB 223) has been introduced that would divide the state into seven geographical areas, called districts, and require one citizen member of the Board reside in each district.
UW System Position
NEUTRAL: The Legislature and the Governor have the prerogative to determine the appointment process and membership of the Board of Regents.
