The council will advise state agencies on matters related to agricultural education, workforce development, and to increase hiring and retention of well-qualified employees in industries related to agriculture, food, and natural resources. Membership would include the president of the UW System or his or her designee and other UW representatives.
Referred to: The Assembly Education Committee.Assembly Amendment 1 offered by Rep. Al Ott makes a number of changes to the bill including membership, reporting requirements and other technical changes.
UW System Position
SUPPORT: Council would provide long-term advocacy for agricultural education and initiatives that improve employment opportunities to meet the challenging demands of Wisconsin’s agricultural industry, food, and natural resource systems. The establishment of an agricultural education and workforce development council in itself would have no fiscal impact on UW System. However, its potential recommendations may have fiscal implications if, for example, the UW System is required to hire additional faculty and staff and/or develop curricula recommended by the council. These implications cannot be assessed at the present time.
