Full Description

(Wieckert/Risser) At the request of the UW Hospital and Clinics and the UW Health Organ Procurement Organization, this bill has been drafted and introduced to reflect changes promulgated by the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws.  This legislation updates and modernizes organ donation methods and procedures and attempts to make them more uniform with other states across the country.  The Uniform Anatomical Gift Act (UAGA) was originally created in 1968 and was updated in 1987.

To date, this version has been enacted in 18 other states and introduced in 13 others.

UW System Position

SUPPORT:   The UW Health OPO is a leader in organ donation.  In 2005 and 2006 we preformed more kidney and simultaneous kidney-pancreas transplants than any other program in the nation.

We performed the first heart, first combined heart/lung, first adult to adult living related liver, and first islet cell transplant in Wisconsin.
