UW System Position
SUPPORT: The Board supports the removal of the WHEG cap and this bill to increase the maximum award for the state’s neediest students. In 2006-07 approximately 7,000 of the 28,857 WHEG recipients received the maximum award. Should tuition rise next year, the bill would allow these students to at least be eligible to receive an increase to cover any tuition increase, if their family income and assets remain unchanged. According to HEAB’s fiscal note, there is no fiscal impact to the bill.
