(Harsdorf) Adds a nontraditional student regent.

UW System Position

NEUTRAL: The Legislature and the Governor should have the prerogative to change the appointment process and membership to the Board of Regents.

This bill allows a broader selection pool than AB 158 from which the Governor can choose student Regents, however, some of the same concerns should be considered by the Legislature:

  • Creating an even number of Board members.
  • Creating specific constituencies for specific Regents.

Also nothing in current law would preclude the Governor from appointing another student to the Board in one of the existing at-large positions.
