STATE UPDATE
Biennial Budget
The Growth Agenda (UW System’s proposed operating budget) is before JFC tomorrow. UW System students, alumni, and community partners will likely continue their active support of the UW System’s budget and a strategic re-investment in higher education. An updated set of fact sheets is available online to help explain these budget initiatives: Growth Agenda for Wisconsin.

In addition, UW System is asking for support on an individual motion related to BadgerNet funding, not addressed in the LFB papers. This requested statutory change costs no money to the state, can send no money back to the general fund, but ultimately will help all campuses receive Universal Service Funds. Please see the attached memo for details: BadgerNet Motion.
Finally, LFB Paper 463 related to the veteran’s tuition remission program contains an option to create a deadline for application for claiming tuition remission (Alternative C1 in the paper, p. 6). UW System has taken a strong position in support of this in communication to the legislature, saying “This clarification will permit campuses to determine the usage of these remissions in a timely fashion and will permit financial aid which, if not provided to veterans and dependents, would be available to other deserving students”. Timing is short – however, additional communications to legislators regarding this would be very helpful!
