Charles J. "Chuck" Stathas
Emeritus General Counsel
Chuck Stathas graduated from UW-Madison Law School in 1958 and was hired as the first staff attorney ever employed by the University of Wisconsin Administration in the spring of 1961. Prior to this appointment, he worked as an attorney for three years at the National Bank of Detroit.
His primary duties as the General Counsel of the UW System included serving as Counsel for the governing board, handling general corporate law matters, negotiating sale and purchase of real estate, and overseeing tax and trust fund administration. He served as Assistant Trust Officer for most of his career and was designated Emeritus General Counsel upon his retirement in December 1998. He currently serves as a consultant to the UW System Administration and General Counsel's Office.
