General Counsel Tomas Stafford graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1988 with a B.A. He earned a law degree from the University of Minnesota in 1991. After law school, Mr. Stafford practiced for two years with Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A., a large firm with offices in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. He then served as counsel to the higher education and commerce committees of the Minnesota State Senate. Prior to joining the University of Wisconsin System Office of General Counsel, Mr. Stafford was an Assistant Attorney General with the Minnesota Attorney General's Office for five years. He was assigned to the Education Division and represented the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System. Mr. Stafford's areas of specialty include employment law, immigration, and open records.
