Technical Issues

What are the system requirements for users to be able to operate the Shared Financial System modules?

Desktop Computers? Network?
  • Personal computer with Pentium or higher processor
  • Windows 95/98 or Windows NT operating system
  • Unique TCP/IP address
  • Excel for Office 97 (for n/Vision reports and Query extracts)
  • Wide area network LAN connectivity via TCP/IP to DoIT in Madison. Modem speeds are not sufficient.
  • There is no requirement for local network servers
  • There are no required local network storage requirements to support the base system, however, individual institutions may choose to deliver reports in a manner that requires additional local network storage

How does the institution establish a connection to the 2 SFS servers at DoIT?

  • Detailed instructions are available from DoIT to setup a Shared Financial System workstation
  • Summary diagram of SFS 3-Tier architecture:
SFS 3-Tier Architecture

How will logons and passwords be handled, and who will administer?

  • Logon IDs used for SFS must be unique across all UW System SFS users. This includes full-time users such as GL, AP and Purchasing professionals as wells as department users
  • The 3-digit 3270 logon ID will be used where available
  • DoIT will centrally maintain both logon IDs and logon password resets
