University of Wisconsin System Plan 2008: Educational Quality Through Racial/Ethnic Diversity

Best Practices Resource Center

The Best Practices Resource Center provides effective strategies and tools for reducing the achievement gap between students of color and economically disadvantaged students and other students. These resources are linked to the UW System Plan 2008 "Best Practices in Closing the Achievement Gap" conference held October 18-19, 2004 at the Olympia Resort and Conference Center in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.

The impetus for this conference began in April 2004 when the UW System Board of Regents called upon UW institutions to act boldly to close the achievement gap separating students of color and economically disadvantaged students from other students. The Board specified that we must focus on retention and assessment as we enter Phase II of Plan 2008, the UW System’s 10-year strategic plan for increasing racial and ethnic diversity across the UW System.

The Best Practices Resource Center houses valuable information presented at the conference along with related information and links on retention and assessment. This site will continuously be updated to provide the latest information on retention and assessment and serve as an ongoing resource to UW institutions.
