Plan 2008 Campus Best Practices
Welcome to the UW System Office of Academic Diversity and Development Plan
2008 Best Practices web page.
In March 2003, the 15 institutions across UW System reported on the diversity
progress under Plan 2008: Educational Quality Through Racial and Ethnic Diversity—Phase
I: 1999-2003. Institutions were asked to identify from their perspective models
which yielded exceptional outcomes. The selection of Best Practices were based
on a variety of measurements;
- Numeric and percent increases (no numeric enrollment targets were used),
- New dollars raised or institutional reallocations from existing programs
- Feedback from community or campus constituents was solicited to improve
program
- Campus conducted evaluation and research (e.g. campus climate surveys,
exit interviews)
- External consultants and independent assessment provided a non-partisan
evaluation of programs
- Campus, regional, state or national awards were given for outstanding
programs
- Increased accountability through the creation of new positions (e.g. Vice
Chancellor for Campus Climate)
- Chairs, deans and administrators at the department and unit level were
annually reviewed for progress in diversity
- Creation of unit level diversity plans (e.g Department of Chemistry develops
department level diversity plan)
- Continuation of funding from external funding sources (e.g. TRIO grant
renewal)
- Develop new collaborative partnerships (e.g. new partnerships with the
business community, state agencies, or community based organizations)
