The Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (formerly Office of Academic Diversity and Development) provides leadership to all UW System institutions in creating and maintaining policies and procedures that help to achieve the goals and initiatives of Plan 2008 and other related race and ethnic diversity activities. In this capacity, EDI (formerly OADD) is charged with assisting the President in monitoring and coordinating the implementation of the UW System Plan 2008.

The Assistant Vice President for EDI advises the President's cabinet on policy formation and budgetary issues, and serves as the President's designee and representative on university and community groups as they relate to multicultural educational concerns within the UW System.
