Rebecca Karoff is an Academic Planner in Academic and Student Services (ACSS), where she serves as principal staff person and office liaison to the Board of Regents Education Committee and to the UW System Provosts. She coordinates a systemwide initiative on the Liberal Arts and provides staff support to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs in a variety of areas. She also administers a systemwide teaching award program.

A 1981 graduate of Brown University, Rebecca holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1990), where she specialized in 19th- and 20th-century European literature. Her dissertation focused on the Austrian author Hermann Broch's Schlafwander trilogy and Marcel Proust's multi-volumed A la recherche du temps perdu. Prior to joining UW System Administration in 1994, Rebecca taught Comparative Literature courses at UW-Madison, covering texts from Plato to Toni Morrison. Before taking on the staff liaison responsibilities with the Board and the Provosts in 2001, Rebecca worked with the Office of Professional and Instructional Development.

When not in the office, Rebecca enjoys her two children, Jacob and Sophie. In her limited spare time, she beads, making earrings, bracelets and necklaces for her colleagues and others to wear.
